Becoming An EMC Instructor

If you would like to become an instructor with EMC, please send an email to Info@MedicalTraining.cc with the following:

  • Subject: (Your Name) – Becoming an Instructor
  • Body: Brief introduction describing why you believe you would be a great fit for Emergency Medical Consultants
  • A current resume or CV including all relevant experience
  • The front and back of all relevant certifications, including your instructor and provider cards (if you are not currently an instructor, visit our Instructor Courses page to earn your certification)

Upon reviewing all of your information, you will generally meet with our Training Center Coordinator. If you are a new instructor, he will speak with the instructor who monitored you, if you’re an experienced instructor he would like to speak to your current or previous co-instructors. We will review our philosophy and concepts on presenting programs (Hint- it involves doing “the right thing” and following the syllabus with no short cuts). We will then follow the process below:

  1. If you are a new instructor: Observe a class- sit through with one of our instructors and rotate through each station as an assistant. We like you to do this on day 1 at a hospital or a Fire Dept in which we are doing the review lectures for advanced classes. (Yes, we know lectures are a bad word to AHA, but some folks do need them)
  1. Sit in as a “Team-Teacher” for the entire class- you will be teaching a station – given our syllabus and outline- (you have the rest of the info in your instructors manual and experienced providers or providers text)- The other instructor will assist you as needed and complete a monitoring form on you once he / she feels you are prepared to manage a station on your own- If you are new, this is when you will receive you official AHA Instructors Card.

We start all instructors who are new with us off as “station or skills” instructors to develop them in the teaching role- we suggest anyone who wants to do lectures and become a “lead” instructor sit in and watch a couple other people present the information, take notes, and review the info in the Experienced Providers text.  We then follow the same process as previously stated in helping develop anyone who wishes to take on this role as well.

We realize some people enjoy both doing the lecture/review sections and others just like the scenario stations, we want our faculty to be comfortable with whichever position fits their style and personality.

There is a bit of a learning curve when EMS folks teach at the hospital level and vice versa- we try to put a mix of staff in our programs with varied experience.
